| WE DON'T SEND EMAIL Yep, it's another joe-job happening (November, 2011). Just a hint for you folks that are seeing spoofed email appearing to come "from" vhdev.com - we don't send email. None. There are no email users on this domain. So, if you're getting email that's "from" a user on vhdev.com, it's fake. It never came from us, period. See our simple explanation. |
| ATTENTION: Vincent's Hollow codebase will no longer run on this system. The code it is based on is antiquated and outdated. With a recent system update, the MUD fails to run and crashes upon character login. While I will do my best to fix it again, this may or may not be possible. So, please be patient and I'll do the best I can. --Allanon |
What is Vincent's Hollow LPMUD?To explain what is Vincent's Hollow LPMUD is like a parent trying to explain sex to a one year old. Vincent's Hollow LPMUD is an experience best consumed at your personal level, rather than explained to you by someone else using the limited mortal words that we are stuck with. No really, what *is* Vincent's Hollow LPMUD?Okay, so I was too lazy to explain it to you the first time you asked. If you really must know, Vincent's Hollow LPMUD is an internet-based interactive entertainment environment where players from around the world can connect to it to chat, play, and compete with each other in real time. It is a text-based environment with a rich culture of player base, both on-line and in real life. Using the concept originated by the original Adventure game on the computers, Vincent's Hollow LPMUD and other MUDs of similar nature have taken the text-based adventure games to a new height. Who started this mess?Michael Huang started Vincent's Hollow LPMUD on April 28 of 1991 at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. Why Vincent? The name Vincent was chosen in honor of Vincent Atanasoff, one of the parental units (politically correct term for "father") of modern computers, who taught at ISU during 1930's. Why Hollow?Hollow was chosen because the first world Michael created was a valley inhabited by fantasy-oriented creatures. So, this is like an on-line Dungeons And Dragons game?To some players, yes. But to many, especially on Vincent's Hollow LPMUD, it is more of an entertainment environment where one comes to meet friends, both in real life and virtual life. There are other "games" than just exploring fantasy worlds. Vincent's Hollow LPMUD also has on-line games like Mastermind, UNO, and the infamous purity/nerd tests, plus on-line mail and news systems where you can leave messages for your friends. More of such non-fantasy oriented games are constantly being developed. But, our bread and butter, so to speak, is still our fantasy adventuring portion of the entertainment environment. How big is this fantasy world? The world is constantly expanding for players to explore and enjoy. We have a team of 20+ volunteer designers, developers, and programmers who work hard to continuously expand this fantasy-oriented imaginative realm, and populate it with ever wondrous creatures and inhabitants. How do I connect to Vincent's Hollow LPMUD?

If you already have a telnet application associated with your web browser, you can click here. Our telnet address is mud.vhdev.com 1991. Will you ever "be on the web"?Are you asking if we'll ever have graphics and sounds?Probably not. We prefer the text mode and let the players' imagination fill in the blanks. If you want fancy graphics and sounds and all the multimedia hypes, there are many computer games and graphical MUDs out there to satisfy your taste. But, just like books have not been replaced by televisons and computers, there will always be a niche for text-based MUDs, where you can log in and let your own imagination run wild. We can spend years working on a graphical MUD, but it will never match the worlds imagined within your own mind. |
